Wiegand Protocol has been the standard for access control since the 1970s. Open Supervised Device Pro- tocol (OSDP) is a new standard developed by the Security Industry Association (SIA) to enhance the security of access control systems and improve inter-operability between access control system components. Both Wiegand and OSDP are reliable protocols used in access control systems. While Wiegand is cheaper and easier to implement, OSDP is more secure and has enhanced capabilities. Ultimately, the best protocol for your application will depend on your budget and security needs.
